I think that I have grown tremendously over the past school year. I have learned a lot about composition and how to crop what I'm actually seeing in order to have it fit the space better. I also learned a lot about different techniques, that I can draw the way that I want to and have my own mark, which has made figure drawing much more fun. Most importantly, I learned that rather than throwing a fit and quitting the figure drawing, I need to get though it and finish it, I learned to march through the pain.
I've seen the greatest growth in resolving the overall completeness of the work, like the edges. However, I have also grown a lot more comfortable with using chalk, having never used it before. I learned a new technique of using chalk and I think that has made the whole process a lot easier, I just wish that I had been able to learn it sooner so that I had more time to practice. I think that I really need to improve the most in having a figure-ground relationship and resolving the face portion of the person. The other thing that I think that I really need to work on is leaving highlights, I always forget about them, and adding detail. I just need to work on working faster but with more detail, I think that I really just need more practice so that I can become more familiar with the materials and the process. Next year I think I will try to learn how to use the material before I actually dive in and start using it, I'll look up techniques and watch videos so that I have a basic idea of what I'm working with before I work with it. I think that it will give me the boost that I need so that I can focus more on perfect the skill than figuring out the skill.
